Newcastle finally do the job, only just.

Needing 3 points, Newcastle United traveled to London (where they have struggled tremendously in recent times) to drag themselves out of the Relegation scrap. In these situations, it's rarely a HOW question, but an IF question... the answer was yes.

Instant Reaction: West Ham 0, Newcastle 0

Papiss Cisse had a borderline goal not given in the first half, and Alan Pardew waved the white flag in the second. It's a point for Newcastle, but that may not be good enough.

Newcastle United 0, Liverpool 6

(Actual reaction coming later. Rationality not currently possible.)

5

1 point gained? 2 points dropped.

It should have been a much better result for Newcastle United today at The Hawthorns. Could have ended the day 8 points clear of the drop zone. Coulda shoulda woulda. Spit.

Newcastle 1, Benfica 1 (2-4 agg) - Europe Over

Newcastle were eliminated from Europa League play Thursday by Benfica, who parlayed a mistake-free performance into a ticket to the semifinals.

Newcastle Leave It Late, But Find That One Goal

When it looked like 2012-13 was going to produce us yet another irritating, frustrating result in the form of a home draw against Fulham in a match that we controlled, Papiss Cissé produced a moment of magic to take a deserved and invaluable 3 points

4

Benfica 3, Newcastle United 1

Two missed opportunities and two defensive miscues turned the first leg of the Europa League Quarterfinal between Benfica and Newcastle into a bloodbath.

9

You can see the train a' comin

At least the Fulsom County Blues was made into a great song. There was nothing great about this match... not even City, for whom the final score line was quite flattering.

Hatem Ben Arfa injury woes continue

Hatem Ben Arfa has had a torrid time with injuries during his time with Newcastle United. Latest news reports have Alan Pardew ruling the French winger out for the remainder of this season.

Newcastle United leave it late but advance

A literal last second goal from the head of Papiss Cissé put Newcastle United into the quarterfinal of the Europa League as they beat Anzhi Makhachkala 1-0 on the night (1-0 aggregate).

5

Mission accomplished. 3 Points for the Toon

Matches v. Stoke always are difficult to watch. Late winners make it easier to stomach.

6

Consider it a point lost

Despite performing well for most of the match, Newcastle United were deserved losers at Swansea thanks to a defensive collapse in the 85th minute at the Liberty Stadium. It was not all doom and gloom, however.

19

Newcastle take another important 6 pointer

It was Newcastle United's second six-pointer of the month, and they came up trumps again, this time defeating Southampton 4-2 at St. James' Park. While still only 6 points above the drop zone it does push the club to 14th in the Premier League table

Newcastle United Advance to Europa Round of 16

Shola Ameobi's penalty was enough to push Newcastle over Metalist Kharkiv, 1-0.

6

No Goals Allowed: Newcastle 0, Metalist 0

Newcastle drop all 3 points in a lackluster effot

There are few things more American than waking up at 6:30 to watch a game of football (except pretty much everything else). With the lunchtime start at White Heart Lane, Newcastle were looking to...

30

"Kissing the Badge": Newcastle 3, Chelsea 2

Moussa Sissoko's brace lifted Newcastle to victory in a highly contentious match.

25

Well... 3 points is 3 points.

If it all felt like the first half, we'd be jubilant. As it was, it didn't... and we aren't.... but we do have 3 very very very important points.

30

"I was saving this alcohol for later, but..."

Reading came from behind to put Newcastle in real relegation danger.

25

Your reaction to the Arsenal match.

More words.

26

Opportunity lost.

A match that held so much promise was pissed away by Newcastle's porous defense.

3

3 points is 3 points

The way that this season has gone, the expression "beggars can't be choosers" comes to mind, and this match was the perfect example. On the heels of a rather bright performance against defending...

2

2nd Place assured - bring on the round of 32

Surely winning the group would have been preferable, but there was an understandable onus on staying healthy today. With the manager's estimation the big prize on the day, Newcastle's youngsters lost 2-0 at Bordeaux.

3

"Notorious B.I.G.i": Newcastle 3, Wigan 0

Newcastle bounced back with a convincing win against 10-man Wigan.

20

So that happened. Again. (Part III)

Because we're clearly not lacking on the defensive end of our squad, it is surprising that two defensive lapses in the last 10 minutes have cost Newcastle dearly yet again. Or it's not surprising.
