Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has dropped hints the team may be interested in a centerback in the transfer window and one rumored target, Reading centerback Alex Pearce, sounds interested in joining the Magpies if they chase after him.
"I do think Alex would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle," a source told the Shields Gazette. "He's in a fantastic position, and there's a number of clubs monitoring him. Newcastle would be a club that would interest him."
The 6'2" Pearce can bring the physical presence in the box that Pardew wants to bring and he also has Premier League experience, which is a big plus. Pearce's contract has expired and he's been linked to Liverpool, among other clubs, but with the uncertainty of Fabricio Coloccini and his situation with the Argentinean club, a push for Pearce could be made.
Pearce is also known as a vocal leader on the pitch, willing to get on players not doing their role and pushes the defense up the field.
