Newcastle United were drawn with Manchester United for the Third Round of the Football League Cup Thursday. The Toon will visit Old Trafford on September 24 in what looks like the most interesting match of the round from a neutral perspective. The winner of the match will advance to the round of 16.
If you're a Newcastle fan and you're worried about fixture congestion, this won't be any relief. A Europa League match (pending Friday's draw) awaits on Thursday the 20th, and 2 days later they will host Norwich City and former manager Chris Hughton to Sports Direct Arena for a Premier League match. Manchester United will be balancing their own schedule, as they will have hosted Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League on the 19th and traveled to Liverpool just one day before this League Cup tie. Essentially, this has all the looks of being a very public reserves match between the two sides. Just one more reason to add depth on Deadline Day tomorrow.
