Cote d'Ivoire Advance to AFCON Semifinals, Tiote's Absence Lengthened
Cote d'Ivoire defeated co-hosts Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in the quarterfinal stage of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Saturday on the strength of two goals from Chelsea forward Didier Drogba and one from Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure. Up next for them is a semifinal match with the winner of Gabon-Mali, which will be contested on Sunday.
The Ivorians' advancement to the next round means that Cheik Tiote, who did not feature in the victory, will remain in Africa through the end of the tournament (since even a defeat in the semifinals means a berth in the third place game). Tiote will miss Sunday's fixture with Aston Villa and is now guaranteed to skip the February 11 tie with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. He, along with midfield partner Yohan Cabaye, who is currently serving a suspension for violent conduct, will return for a home match with Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 25. All told, by the time Tiote returns, he will have missed 7 consecutive matches for the second time this season (the first due to knee injury).

Man-
Ivory Coast’s uniforms are… garish.
Also, there is a whole what-if game to play concerning Cheik’s absences this season. Who would have thought we’d be where we are now playing without him as much as we have?

No doubt
It scares me that these absences might get Ashley thinking about how dispensable he thinks he is. Good thing he has that long contract.

(with the help of some adult beverage)
I caught myself just minutes ago wondering about Tiote’s expendability. Still thinking that one through.

I think his absence along with Yohan's are really going to affect us against the Tottenham
Especially since Tottenham has arguable the best MF in the PL. We have to take care of our game tomorrow so that if we lose the next game, we wont be too far off pace.

I've already written Spurs off as a loss
Need those 3 points tomorrow

Hard to not view it that way...
but 3 points are critical tomorrow if only for the fact that it keeps us A) above Arsenal and B) level on points with Chelsea for 4th.
It’s a matter of where our hopes lie… 3 points keeps us squarely in the discussion for the CL. . . fewer points puts us struggling for the Europa League. Big big points on offer tomorrow.

Good for Tiote
Hope his team wins the cup or medals or whatever the winning side gets.

At this point,
it doesn’t make much sense to root against them. He’s gone either way.
