Blackburn Rovers 0, Newcastle United 2 - Post Game

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 24: Demba Ba of Newcastle scores his team's opening goal past Scott Dann of Blackburn during the Barclays Premier League match between Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers at St James' Park on September 24, 2011 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Newcastle were outworked, out-possessed, and out-chanced today, and before stoppage when they were on the counterattack, they only scored on a Scott Dann own goal that had no business being anywhere near the net. To use a common football phrase that I despise, they didn't deserve to win, but they did. It's the kind of game that you almost feel dirty taking three points from, but then again, it's hard to feel bad about beating a team full of floppers (yes, I'm bitter, and yes, I'm looking at you, Junior Hoilett).

Star-divide

It's also hard to say that the win wasn't justifiable, because half of the game is defense, and while they weren't able to keep Rovers from taking their chances, they got multiple clearances and blocks from Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini, and Tim Krul was huge as well, making every stop he had to, especially on a David Dunn penalty at the end of the first half.

If anything, this game highlights the importance of scoring first, as Blackburn spent most of the game chasing the ball and pressing their chances, while Newcastle had the luxury of sitting back and, well, mostly sitting back. It was ugly, but it's three points, and we don't have to see the Rovers again until next season. More importantly, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse will join the team for the next fixture with Aston Villa. If Newcastle can only manage an own goal at that point, then we have a problem.

Great win, arsenal drew, we are 5th!

I voted for Krul because he had some great saves, Collo was a close second for me with Obertan third

I cant either

But although we are getting our strikers in, our main pair in the midfield wont be playing the next 2 games which means we wont have them against Tottenham which scares me. We really have to take care of business next week at home against Aston Villa.

Fifth with the Sengalese combo coming back?

Ohhh just for a minute I’m letting myself dream of Europe. And getting a laugh at those asshats who laughed at me on relegation day almost 3 years ago.

My vote’s for Krul, but I only saw the second half.

Should've voted Colo, Krul's mistakes slipped my mind when I voted.

Simpson would be second for me.

I went with Colo...

nobody was perfect… but he was more perfect than everyone else.

Coming Home Newcastle!

I just think saving that penalty was too epic for Krul not to get MOTM

I suppose

and the match plays out differently if they score it, surely…

but as it did play out, the penalty save doesn’t win the match or save a point…
