Newcastle sit atop the table with two matches remaining in group play.
After four matches, Newcastle United sit atop Group D with 8 points. Obviously, first place is preferable to fourth (just ask Manchester City), but the Toon still have their work cut out for them if they wish to advance to the knockout stage.
| Place | Club | W | D | L | GF | GA | +/- | Pts |

| 2 | Bordeaux | 2 | 1 | 1 | 6 | 4 | 2 | 7 |

Remaining Fixtures
22 November
Newcastle United vs. Maritimo
Club Brugge vs. Bordeaux
6 December
Bordeaux vs. Newcastle United
Maritimo vs. Club Brugge
Newcastle can clinch second place (necessary for advancement) with a win against Maritimo. A draw plus a draw in the Bordeaux-Club Brugge fixture will also do the trick. The worst case scenario would be a loss plus a Club Brugge win, putting two teams right behind them at 7 points. Regardless, most observers would agree that NUFC should have little problem gaining at least a point at home against hapless Maritimo.
