Newcastle have extended their unbeaten streak to five games to start the 2011-12 Premier League season, and though only one point was found on this expedition to Villa Park, the only disappointment should be that they weren't able to steal all three.
The game started ominously enough, with Gabriel Agbonlahor scoring on a Fabricio Coloccini howler (or so I've heard, I wasn't able to catch the first several minutes of this one). An early concession seemed a death knell for a team that has played a purely defensive style so far this season, but instead Newcastle were able to find some possession and mounted several scoring chances before Leon Best found the back of the net in the 57th minute.
From there, Villa played with a bit more urgency, but Newcastle still held the advantage in possession and territory. Though there were chances to be had, they couldn't be converted, and both teams held on for a typical 1-1 draw.
